View Full Version : Who'd be interested in a track (rental) day?

Due to recent events on another local site, I've volunteered to set up a day at the track, so people can settle their differences with each other through grudge matches. Not sure if we'd get a whole day or maybe just a few hours, depends on how many folks want to show up and race. I'm a huge advocate of bringing racing off the streets and onto the track - 1) It's safer, 2) It's legal, and 3) People tend to not talk as much trash when you show them a timeslip.
If you'd be interested in coming out and racing, post up in here. Let me know when you'd like to set this up. I'll be calling the track for info on available dates, but right now I'm thinking of shooting for late March early April.

I'd be down for it as long as my car is running by then.

I'm drafting up an email to the folks at the track now, I'll let you know what they say.

all anyone really gotta do is go up there on street day (sundays now) and the two poeple that want to race get in line one in front of the other and let the guy at the staging lanes know you both want to run each other and he'll put you together at the tree. thats how we always did it in the past.
just saying, for the cost and the limited number of cars that more then likly run, it may be better.
just an idea in case the track rental doesn't work out in the favor of most.

I love being out at the track when people I know are running, doesn't matter if I am running or not. I do the photography thing, so I enjoy the heck out of being out there taking pics of cars at the starting line, etc.
The Bullitt, I'm not sure when it's coming back. One, it's no where close to being driveable right now, but two, I'm in the middle of trying to cross train (on the NCORP09 list), so I don't want to bring it back here and then just have it sit for months while I'm in training, or worse yet, I get PCS'd somewhere.

It's in a garage now. :) No need to spend hundreds of bucks on gas to bring it here and put it in a garage here. Besides, the person watching it for me is a great friend of mine, who happens to own a shop and is a parts supplier. ;) The car will be built, and built strong, I just need to figure out exactly what I want to do with it, and start funneling some money to her.

I'd be up for so long as the price isn't crazy high.

would be cool, but need a price and date. rental days are sweet cause you dont have to compete with all the people to make runs.

Well guys, looks like it might be in everyone's best interest just to do the "smart staging".
I did get a reply to the email from Chris; he and his wife take car of the track's website and photography. He just signed on as a member here (Falcon67) and offered to check in and help answer any questions we might have about the track.
btw, Chris also had this to say:
Don’t forget that Sterling Robertson (Sterling Volkswagen) puts up money to win in the Street Eliminator on random Sundays, so hanging out at the track can be both fun and profitable. The Street Eliminator is an optional choice for people as there are some just not interested in bracket racing.

So obviously you're going to let her build your car. :headshake:

You make it sound like once everything is taken care of you're going to just start shuffling/wasting money letting her put it together for you when if you brought it here, the couple hundred dollars in gas money would save you a couple grand in parts and labor. BMC is not the be all, end all of finding good deals and good pricing on parts. Labor is free here.

I understand that, believe me I do. FWIW, I'm leaning more and more towards the 4V every day, especially after spending some time yesterday looking on eBay and reading Matt's article on the 2V to 4V conversion. Lisa's been watching the Bullitt for me for months though, with the mindset that she (BMCP) will be the one to do the rebuild. At the very least, I owe it to her to wait to hear what pricing she offers me before making any decisions on which way to go with a rebuild. And labor may be free here, but I don't even know how long I am going to be here given my retraining situation. (meaning it doesn't make sense to bring the Bullitt back here, not have a place to store it, only to turn around and have to drag it to my next duty station.) If I don't get accepted for retraining or end up staying assigned to Dyess, I will most likely end up bringing the Bullitt back here and going 4V.
