Expect an official announcement on or around August 13, 2010. There are rumors that 2 versions will be unveiled, a "street" version and an SE version. But we may have already seen that in the BOSS 302R race car. Either way, we have seen the SR-71 and it is likely to have shown us what's in store for the BOSS 302.

Expect the BOSS 302 to take the following cues from the SR-71 Mustang (pics below):

Front fascia - includes GT/CS front + splitter, unique grill with centered tribar pony between empty fog light openings.
4 pt roll cage
Rear seat delete
Recaro Racing Seats
I've been seeing folks throw around the 430hp number. If true, it would likely be the "street" model, so maybe there's a possibility the SE model would receive the Whipple from the SR-71, puting the hp well into the 500's.
Also expect it to have unique wheels and graphics package.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm more excited about this car than I was about the new Bullitt, or even Shelby GT500s. Just something about saying "The BOSS is Back!" makes me happy in the pants!

Anyways, here's some press pictures of the SR-71 Mustang for reference...

And just for added credibility, I pulled this from another site:

This is just a ventured guess, but wouldn't it make sense to reveal the new Boss at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion? Since the 2012 Boss is based on those 69/70s which were built for Trans-Am and the Monterey Reunion has a good number of the original Boss Trans-Am race cars in attendance at a track (Laguna Seca) where a Boss 302 won in 1970? Lots of Boss connections.

I read the reveal might be on August 13th, which would fall during the RMMR weekend.

I don't know, just guessing.

So basically it's gonna be this body style/gen's
Bullitt or Shelby GT.
I told myself the only way I would get the new body style was if they brought back the BOSS. (I just love the 05-09 bodystyle)

I just hope with only that much of an increase in HP they dont go spiking up the price to
ten grand more than the 5.0 is now.
That would RUIN the whole idea to me.

That would RUIN the whole idea to me.The Bullitt and Shelby GT were like 5-7% upgrades over the GT as far as power increase and suspension upgrades... I'd expect the BOSS to trump that, by a long shot. It'll be interesting to see where they pit it against the GT500. Maybe in the same neighborhood, with the Shelby being the brute strength choice for those wanting to go to the drag strip, and the BOSS being super finessed in its handling abilities, for those that want to carve corners with the best. The BOSS 302R is already cleaning house...
