It was nice and warm out today so James, Corey and I all went out fishing. I was ready to pack it up and head back home when I caught this bohemoth on a red/black rattletrap.

The best part of catching this thing was watching James ninja his way over the rocks to help me land this thing! It actually broke the line right as I got it to the bank, and James kept it from swimming off for me while Corey ran up to the truck to get the pliers (which he then threw over my head and into the lake... :disturbed: )

yeah that thing was a lunker! I called my dad to tell him about it last night and he asked how big it was, I said "... think elbow to finger tips... it was about that long."

I need to get a scale to keep with the tackle box. I want to see how much these bad boys weigh.

BTW, I don't like that hat, lol. And Corey has no appreciation for taking pictures that enhance depth/size perception, so I look like a little kid in that friggin pic...

The hat is fine when it's not just chillin on the top of your dome!

lol. I'm still on the lookout for another hat... and some new shades. I stared at US Standard Issue last night for about 45 minutes trying to pick a pair I thought I'd like, but didn't swing the bat on any of them.

Thanks!

Caught it at Ft Phantom, on the other side of the damn from Johnson park. James (SeeingRed) caught a similar sized bass one morning AT Johnson Park late in the season last year, and I caught another one similar sized, in a little cove we found off of Eastlake Road.

I've literally never caught ANYthing at Kirby, but we usually do decent at Phantom. Also, we've been out to Coleman and done pretty well there. But my biggest bass have always come out of Phantom.

What are u using cause I haven't caught one at phantom

For this one I used a red/black rattl-trap. For the big one last season I was using a chartreuse buzzbait. For most of the other decent sized bass I caught last season, I used chartreuse/white spinnerbaits.

Alright I'm gonna have to go up there and see how I can do

Try out some Culprit worms too.

I have been fishing at several lakes around Abilene (Coleman, Ivie, Hubbard, Cisco, Brownwood, etc) on boats and for what ever reason it seems like I always catch my biggest fish at Phantom from the shore (minus the 30lb+ Gar I caught on accident on a boat). The monster I caught at Phantom last August was about 5.5-6.5 lbs and I caught it on an H20 Express (academy brand) top water lure. The same day Rich caught that one I caught about a 3lb fatty on a black/red spinner bait with a trailer hook (which is what hooked the fish) that I later lost in the rocks. I seem to have most of my success at Phantom using Pop-Rs, dark colored spinner baits (black/red, black/blue) when the water is murky and lighter colored (chartreuse/white, white, red/white) when the water is more clear. I've got a new stash of worms though that I'm itching to try out if this fuckin wind ever goes away.

Here's a pic of the biggun I caught last August. Yeah I was holding it funny because she had a face full of hooks. And yes, she was bleeding. The back hook on that lure went right through one of her gills.

My buddy Josh caught an 8lb Large Mouth at Kirby about two or three weeks ago as well on his boat. There are decent sized fish to be had at all of the lakes around here, it's just a matter of finding them.
