Was looking at a cam swap and heard people talking about these and loving them....

http://www.brenspeed.com/detroit3vna.html

Here's my question... This car is my daily driver.
Are these legal here in Texas?
Will I pass inspection?

They don't look at the engine or ask questions here in Texas; all it is is a safety inspection.
You'll be fine.

I wonder where in the hell I could get this done around here?
Dunno of ANY reputable shops in town.

Can anyone suggest a place?
DFW would be fine... so would Midland/Odessa or Lubbock.

Cool I will see if I can talk to those guys and see their prices.

I called Gear Heads and as far as their prices:

Cost for the 4.10 Gears Installed is 450.00
(I may order them on my own to make SURE they are not
the motive gears). I am definitely going to get a master install kit and replace the bearings since I have 50k mi. on it so I imagine
I will be looking at 550 or so total including install.

The Detroit Rocker Cams run 700.00 from Brenspeed.

Gear Heads gave me a quote of 600.00 for the install of the cams and I believe he said that included a tune ( I will double check)
I may just have Brenspeed send me an adjusted tune for free
since I bought my CAI/tuner from them and they offer this.
(Would probably shave a little off the price if the Gear Heads quote did in fact include a tune)

How do those prices sound as far as fairness is concerned?
Good? Bad? Fair?

I am also going to have to decide on whether I am going to get the gears done at the same time (again right now I have 3.55's), or wait a while so I don't spend so much money all at once. gah... decisions.

Screw paying that much for labor.

Matt, go talk to Matt about all of this.

As for the cams, they are not illegal, this isn't Nazi-fornia.

Will do Corey.
I may give you a call later on.
I believe I lost Matt's phone number.

I remember the first time we spoke about the gear swap he mentioned using the same bearings. I don't think he realized that I have 50k mi on the car though and everyone I have talked to with that many mi. that did not switch the bearings and go with a master install kit have run into gear whine problems, many times major. Even with the Ford Racing gears and not Motives.

As for the cams. I am still debating on whether to go with the Ford Racing Hot Rod Cams or the Detroit Rockers. I know the Detroit Rockers do not require phaser limiters and do not require aftermarket valve springs so from what I gather they are as easy to install as the Hot Rods. (Not that I am the guy to talk about installs or anything hahaha.
This is just what I am reading and hearing.)

I am hearing so many good things about the Rockers on Mustang forums and how well they drive at low RPMs and people are reporting no real loss of low end torque. Plus I have the advantage of a free adjusted tune from Brenspeed sent to me via email for my SCT.

The Ford Racing Hot Rods have the advantage of being around a while longer as far as rep.... and I could get a custom dyno tune with them. But I would have to find a place that could load a copy on my SCT. I have also heard mixed reviews of the Hot Rods, though still MOSTLY good.

Yeah.... I def need to talk to Matt about this.
I know he has a guy with a dyno somewhere out of town but he may just agree with me that the adjusted tune from Brenspeed be the way to go.
Brenspeed's tunes are pretty damn good and I'm not sure how much more power I would really squeeze out of a dyno tune vs. the emailed Brenspeed anyhow.

true story..my dad has a 05+ gt Auto with gears, hot rod cams, brenspeed canned tune with sct tuner.

if you want his number you can ask whatever questions you have on drivability etc..

i have only driven his car around the block and it being an auto i didnt notice driving issues because of the stupid autogayness.
