View Full Version : Exhaust Recommendations 95 GT

My wife is thinking about redoing the exhaust on her 95 5.0 GT but doesn't know what she wants. What exhausts are you guys running and what do you recommend/discourage? Right now she has shorty equal length headers dumped into straight pipes running directly to true dual Flowmasters. She wants to add high flow cats back to her exhaust to make it easier to get an inspection but she wants to go with a different system. There is no h pipe or any joint for that matter between the headers and the mufflers, just a straight run of pipe on each side. It sounds pretty good but she is bored and wants to go a different route rather than just adding cats.

The last 5.0 I had had BBK longtubes, off-road H, and Flowmaster 40 series catback. It sounded pretty good.

Thanks for the info guys. I checked out a few on youtube and she seems to like the mac sound the best so far but hasn't really made up her mind yet.

I'm not a big fan of dumps, but if dumps are your thing from what I've gathered it seems like a lot of people go with the Mac Pro Dumps.

It sounds like he is saying it goes from shortiesto pipe to muffler, not typical car term dumps we are usedto reading/discussing about.

I would toss on some high flow cats if u want, an h pipe, and whatever mufflers she wants. 5.0's sound great with an off road h and flowmaster 40's. Tough to beat...

I was responding to the post before mine about having Mac Pro Dumps....I understand what he has on there now.

Yeah, her stang has a pretty strange setup. Basically it is one straight pipe from each BBK equal length shorty to a Flowmaster 40 series then out the back. It was welded up on the car so each side of the exhaust is one solid piece after the header. It makes for a pain in the ass for any transmission on fuel tank drops (I have done both with this exhaust setup). The car sounds good with the setup but I just want to add cats to both cars to make them a little easier to inspect and would like to go with an actual catted crossover pipe and catback to make it easier to work on in the future.

I have MAC long tubes, MAC o/r h-pipe and single chamber Flowmasters dumped. It's awesome if you like retardedly loud exhaust. If you like a more refined sound get a Magnaflow catback. I had one on my car when I first baught it but I didn't like how quiet it was. I would also highly recommend Bassani. It sounds great on modular cars but I've never heard it on a 5.0.

Well I went in a totally different direction than originally planned. I ordered the new headers and midpipe last night and I think I'm going to just reuse the flowmasters and tips she has on it now. I still went with a no cat setup but I will figure that part out later. Oh, btw, here is a pic.

Nope. Visual inspection FTL. FrozenBoost cats FTW!

even though they don't have emissions testing you are still supposed to have cats, same with here in abilene, accourding to the inspection requirments the cats are part of the exhaust system and are supposed to be there.

Unless your car is too low for them to look for cats like the Cobra was, then you're in like flint. ;)

My Camaro is 4.5 in off the ground and the guy still layed flat on the ground and looked under it with a flashlight and said it wouldn't pass. Most people wouldn't do it but I figured it would be better to just get them and be done with it.

The plastic molding on the Cobra was less than 3" off the ground. When I first got the car I took it to Avis Lube on S. 14th to get it inspected. He tried to look under the car, but couldn't see the cats...asked me if I had cats, I say yes, and he writes the ticket.

The crossover tube is hitting on the crank pulley so I emailed the company and I'm waiting to hear back from them. I will probably just go with an underdrive crank pulley and hope it clears.

Still waiting to hear from them about the crossover pipe so I think I'm about to modify it myself and be done with it. The kit is almost done aside from the crossover pipe. I just need to tap the pan for the oil return and finish plumbing in the oil feed line. I just got my MAF in today so I need to cut out a section of pipe to make room for it.

Isn't that hot side of the turbo going to head up the air going in to your throttle body? Just looking at it, it doesn't seem like the best of designs. That, and the cross over pipe. That's not a big deal though. Looks like you're coming right along though.

It is pretty close but the upper intake is not bolted down in the pics so it will have a little more clearance. I am thinking of throwing some header wrap around the cold side piping right there to try to keep some of the heat out. I wish I had more time to work on it but it has been way too crazy around here lately to keep up.

I know it has been a LONG time since I started this thread but I finally had time to finish the car up. I still need to throw a catback on it and upgrade the walbro 190 to a 255 and put the 8.8" together to throw under it but I fired the car up last night and so far so good.

What's with all the blue light around the motor? Please tell me it's not LEDs.

Looks good though.

Actually that was just from the flash on my phone (cell phone pics). I am having a hard time finding a catback for it but other than that and tuning the install is complete.

Magnaflow

I have only heard Spintechs and Flowmasters on 302 stangs so I'm a little new to the exhaust tones they have. Guess I need to look at some video clips of the Magnaflows and some of the others since I'm not much of a fan of Flowmasters and am not dead set on Spintechs either. I really like the Magnaflow sound through an LS engine.

~6lbs + cheap felpro head gaskets = owned.

Ordered a set of Cometic MLS head gaskets and ARP studs and they should be here Wed. Hopefully I can have it back together by Sun for the wtxracing cruise so the wife can drive it.
