Yes. Lots of things can change the way your exhaust sounds...broken rocker arm, busted valve spring, exhaust leak, detonation...

If any of those problems happened to my car. would my engine still read oil pressure. if had a rocker arm bust would it read oil pressure.

if you have tools just take the covers off and look around?

Of course it would still read oil pressure.

No tools and no time i work 12 hour shifts. plus im mechanically challenged. the car has no oil pressure. so im prolly screwed. either way.

If your car has no oil pressure, your oil pump probably took a shit. Hopefully you didn't run the motor too long with no oil pressure...

Go to O'Reilly's and get a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Hook that up and make for certain you have no oil pressure. If you get a zero reading, more than likely it's your oil pump, which is a bitchy bitch to change.

how hard is it to hook up that mechanical oil pressure gauge like i said im mechanically challanged

Not hard...just unscrew the oil pressure sending unit (right above the oil filter...sticks off of about a 7" hex shaped deal sticking out of the block and has two wires going from it toward the firewall) and screw in the mechanical oil pressure gauge. Have someone start your car while you look at the gauge. If there's no oil pressure, kill the car ASAP and order a new oil pump.

If the car is makin a a loud tick, have i already shit my motor up

Maybe...maybe not....depends where the tick is coming from. I can't help you much right now because I'm in Germany, but I would HIGHLY encourage you not to drive that car at all until it gets fixed. I'll be back in town Tuesday and would be willing to take a gander later in the week or next weekend.

Problem is the car is in gatesville tx i drove it down there for the job training i am doing. im still there til the 15th of december. when i got into gatesville i noticed the cars exhaust changed. sounded like it was thumping. it was weird at the time my gauges all read normal. as i drove it to the prison im training at the ticking it didnt start out soft and get louder as i drove it. it just started ticking and it was loud. so i parked it. i had to move my car to a different parking lot. thats the only time i drove it, thats when i noticed the oil pressure. its not even reading zero, its just not moving its way below the zero like its broken. hasnt been moved since now im trying to find a trailor to get it back to abilene. my buddy has a truck that will pull it im lookin for a trailor. anyway thats the story.

Sounds like an oil pump to me.

ye I figured that maybe im just hoping my gauge broke and i broke a rocker arm maybe its just wishful thinking or im in denial. that ticking is my motor shit up and it bothers me that i cant find out til the 15th been parked since the 5th. i also have to tow that piece back to abilene. either way im lookin at it, its going to cost me some cash. thats why im hoping its something minor.

A rocker arm has zero to do with oil pressure. The ticking is probably from the lack of oil pressure which creates a lack of lubrication and heat buildup. It could be a rocker arm that's ticking, but probably not.

An oil pump isn't expensive. The labor is what sucks balls. It's almost easier to pull the motor and do it that way than it is to do it with the motor in the car.

the oil pump is the least of my worries. i was expecting to have to fix that anyway when i saw no oil pressure. what im worried about is when i fix that oil pump that ticking wont stop and now i have to deal with a bigger problem which is replacing something way more expensive probably a stuck valve or a bent rod, or worse my entire engine. Is it a possibility that when i replace the oil pump the noise will stop?

It's possible. Replacing a rocker arm or a valve is no big deal. It would probably take less time to replace one valve than it would replacing the oil pump, to be honest, that's how big of a bitch the oil pump is with the motor in the car.

It's highly unlikely you have a bent rod and if your motor didn't lock up, you should still be good to go.

Once you get the car back in town let me know.
