The intake and plenum cover are black also, so it'll all be black minus the blower and piping, which are polished. Should look pretty good in the car.

Yeah. I just wanted to say ground up. lol.
But its not like I couldn't have put a trans and rear end. lol.
SeeingRed
07-29-2010, 08:53 AM
You definitely could have, but luckily I didn't need that. I'm surprised at how solid the drive line felt behind the monster under the hood. I never had any problems with clutch slipping, trans grinding, rear end whine...nothing at all. Everything was awesome. But now I just have my Tacoma, which by the way I added a K&N filter and E3 plugs to and increased my gas mileage by about 2-3 MPG around town.

uh oh is right! It's dead in the water bro!! Going to base today, just cruising along around 70, and the damn thing started knocking and rattling - pulled over just about 3 miles from base off 20 - had to call Matt, I don't know anyone else that could help - he came over and we loaded it up on his trailer and hauled it to his place. It starts okay, won't idle because whatever is knocking is dragging the engine down. F@#K! Not sure if it's in the trans or engine - no smoking or loss of oil pressure, that's a good thing, so he's gonna take a looksee when he can and let me know. Corey brought me back to the house - I feel like I lost a sibling... :( Thought you'd like an update. :badmood:

yes, in the world of all that can go wrong, it's sad to say I hope it's only the trans and be relieved if it is - but like I told Matt, when something breaks, it's time to upgrade!

me too....if it's the trans then it's gonna be a spec 3 clutch kit and aluminum flywheel going back in. That should hold!
SeeingRed
11-27-2010, 12:06 PM
It has a Fidanza aluminum flywheel in it right now.
Have fun driving around town with a Spec 3. Hopefully you don't get shin splints.
Why not just get an auto from Art Carr? Get a built 4R70W, throw a manual valve body and a shift kit with a good stall in it, then be done?
subsGT
11-27-2010, 05:12 PM
I was going with Matt's recommendations - I don't know how it's built or what's in it. It don't bother me, I like the shifting and prefer a manual. We kicked around going with an automatic, just something about a 6 sp that I like.... Of course, if i did, I'd have to put the smaller pulley on to compensate for the loss of power  :coffee:

I'm good - I like shifting, it's part of the fun of driving.
Anyway, if it IS the trans, it'll be LOTS less to fix then buying another trans, shifter, oil coolers etc....:headbang2:

I have no doubt, I just know what I like, and want.... The initial investment in that car was huge, I can't afford (in a practical sense) to keep throwing $$ at it... It may have been a good price, but remember, I paid for it up front. I don't know a lot of ppl that can do that...:)

^ Understandable Jim. and I wasn't pointing fingers at you. James just likes to poke when he can, cause well...thats what James does. I got his car done as cheap as I could. There were different ways I would have gone for piece of mind...but I went with HIS decision...so with that. I don't know where James gets this...but whatever.
I may be a 'Bad Influence'...but its just that. Nothing more. Ive never turned ANYONE away from working on thier cars because they didn't do what I reccomended...

I wouldn't do the 324". If anything I'd find another Teksid block (or just an aluminum block out of an Aviator or another Cobra block) and keep it stock cubes but boost the bageebus out of it. Like a 3.1" pulley with the 7.5" crank pulley that's on it. You'll max that D1SC out like that...close to 30 PSI.
