chances are if you have a stock bottom end stage 1 is s big as you can with piston to valve clearence, what brand you looking at? and whats the specs on each cam you are interested in, but to answer question no you dont have to buy a stage one to go up to a stage 2 or 3

The stage 2 is wilder. What kind of intake and heads do you have? If they are stock I would go with the stage 1. Stage 2 would be better with some good aluminum heads and an after market intake. If you really want some good info call American Muscle or Comp Cams and ask them. They would know best.

The valve lift is the same, but the lobe separation and the duration are bigger on the stage 2. Both are fairly good sized cams and I wouldn't run either of them on a stock motor.

I'll recommend the Trick Flow stage one cam for you. It's a baby, but it's a good cam.

Trick Flow stage 1 or the Ford Motorsports E303 cam are popular with stock 5.0s.

I'm not a fan of Ford's alphabet cams.

I have the E cam in my fairly stock 5.0 and have had no problems. Haven't had any experience with any other brand but have seen 3 vehicles with E cams and one with a Z cam and they all ran pretty well.

I don't like the grinds. They work just fine, but I don't like the grinds. Lunati, Trick Flow, and Comp cost less and offer more. It's personal preference.
