View Full Version : An idea about Get Togethers, Shows. Bad? Good?

Ok since we all like these car shows etc. and they are few and far in between, I was wondering if the forum leaders might be interested in holding our own show.

We could get other clubs around the area to participate and we could even ask local businesses to come out and provide services with contributions going towards a charity. It would require us to find a public place that would allow us to use a parking lot but that should not be too hard... especially again if they know we are giving to a charity.

I know that it would require work but it would also be something that would be both fun, and get the word out on the club/forum.

Opinions?

It sounds good, plus stuff is already in motion... Biggest problem is we have to start somewhere, and will take some cash to make it happen. Quite a few of us are military and could get orders and leave anytime. So again it will be tough.

A great idea, and one that I just brought up to the other forum leaders. At the very minimum, I'm looking for either one person or a few folks to step up and post about any/all events we find out about, to encourage maximum participation among the club members and like you said, help spread the word about the site.
At the other end of the spectrum, yes, I would like to have a big event where AM takes the lead and puts on a great show, with sponsors, supporters, etc. And at the same time being open to members of the other local clubs.

Back in Aug 07 we did the First Annual Texas Summer Invitational. I lead the organizational part of things, got hooked up with the folks at the Cracker Barrel, and we had a show out there, complete with trophies and free drinks, we had a cruise, and then a little get together back at the hotel where the out of towners stayed. (We had 2 Mustangs come in all the way from CO, and had a couple from Houston and DFW, so it wasn't just a local thing.) I think with the crowd we have here now on the site, and the amount of people we could potentially pull from other sites, both local and non local, we could put on a big show. It'd just takes LOTS of prep work.

I say we set a date and try to come up with something. Immediate thoughts/ideas from me...
I'm going to be out of town from July13-Aug20-ish. After that, I'm open to anything, and can help in planning and spreading the word. I know each Sept (i think) they do that big cruise in that leads back to the bank bldg on Buffalo Gap right across from the mall. And then BCMA usually does a Toys For Tots show. We could either try to line something up to piggyback on those events and get our foot in the door so to speak, or we could do our own thing and lead the way and come up with a really badass event. To me a badass event would have a cruise in, show n' shine (with awards), possible track day/session, group meal of some sort, and then a non car related activity, just to hang out and chill with people. (as an example, we had a BMC event in DFW this past weekend and ended up going up to Turner Falls in OK, it was great! Not car related, but still great.)

Anyways, sorry for the rambling, but yeah, I want us to put on some kickass events. And can use all the help anyone wants to provide. :t)

I would love to play a part in this.
I think that getting local business' involved would help ALOT.

That is why I think we should donate to charity.
Since it takes money, we could donate half to charity and have towards the expenses.
OR we could find some other way of rasing the money we need to get it done.

To tell you the truth... the only cash WE would need would be cash to rent the parking space we have it at (if nowhere would let us do it free for charity), and the cost for advertising it. (posters etc.)

If we all put a little money in... we might not even need to use proceeds.
I do think that local businesses would provide food etc. and give their proceeds to the charity as well because they get free advertising and exposure.
It could be a pure fundraiser with fun for everyone.

Lets not forget we have quite a few charities here that we could donate the proceeds to, or we could do it for a charity that is close to some of our memebers hearts.
Abilene is a charitable town and it would be a good way to get our club noticed, and it would help others.

At least one car show with business' as a fundraiser I think would be a great idea.
And would probably turn out more people than anything else.

Thoughts?
